Located about 2 – 3km to the southeast of Trong Mai Stock Isle, Bo Nau cave looks like a frog. This natural cave is 200 square meters. The bottom is spacious, flat, and shallow. The cave walls are rough with lots of stalactites. There are many cracks, so the light can go through and lighten the cave. The cave bottom is lined.
There is an isle in front of the cave, so the light in this cave is not too dazzling. In the entrance of Bo Nau Cave, there are three stones looking like fairies. Bo Nau Cave is situated in Halong Bay, Quang Ninh Province. It’s located 15km skyway from Bai Chay, in the northwest of Bo Hon Isle. Bo Nau Cave is a site in the Halong cave group, including Sung Sot Cave, Luon Cave, Titop Cave, Trong Cave. However, as this cave hasn’t been exploited for tourism much, it remains the pristine beauty and attraction.
No one knows for sure when the name “Bo Nau” appears. Many people believe that this cave was named “Bo Nau” because it was the home of pelicans, the name of which sounds nearly similar to Bo Nau in the Vietnamese language. Many said that this name comes from the fact that in the past, this cave was the place where local fishermen dyed their boat with a fruit named Bo Nau. Bo Nau is a cave formed inside Bo Nau Isle in Halong Bay. This cave is an underground cave in the old limestone mountain. According to many documents of the French and Vietnamese newspaper in the early 20th century, Bo Nau was one of the most beautiful landscapes and favorite tourist sites of visitors at that time.
Looking from afar, Bo Nau Cave’s door is in dome shape looming in the sea. The ceiling hangs down with various stalactites in different shapes falling down. Each of these stalactites is a sculpture masterpiece of nature. Some stalactites look like a basket of blooming orchid flowers, some look like a couple of flying Phoenixes, some look like the dodder connecting two people in lover, and so on.
Going into the cave, you feel like getting lost in a large stage with nine charming strips of stalactites which look like soft silk curtains. On the cave walls, there are many natural patterns looking like musical instruments, musicians, dancers, performers on their stage. Getting through the first chamber, you will reach the second chamber which looks like a miniature heaven. In the center of the cave, there is a big stone with three smaller ones placed on it. People say that is the image of three fairy men playing chess.
Looking at the right wall, in the dim light coming from the door, you will see lots of stalactites falling down like a waterfall flowing from the paradise, making you feel like you are in the heaven. In the left wall, there are a lot of stones standing one-on-one creating a high column. In the misty air and holy sound of the water dropping on the floor, you will feel as if you were hearing the sound of fairy girls stepping towards the heaven.
